Journalists Have Little Decency
It is the most annoying thing to me that journalists from all news sources rush to shove a microphone in someone’s face at the most critical moment of their tragedy.
There is no sympathy. No humanity. And no common sense. If it’s a news story, they show absolutely no mercy.
Earlier this morning, there was a news bit of a kid who survived an alligator attack. He was in his hospital bed suffering from injuries. But, there’s a camera in his face and a microphone in his hand while journalists were asking him question after question about what happened. I could use other examples. But, I’m not trying to infuriate anyone with the most sensitive examples of journalists losing all respect for the pain others feel.
It’s like a man getting mugged when a journalist rushes onto the scene…
“How does it feel to have a gun pointed in your face?”
“Uh, same as having a camera in my face about right now! Go get help…”
“So, how much money is the mugger going to get away with?”
“It would be great if you would stop asking questions.”
“What are you trying to say? Are you going to try to trick the mugger into thinking you don’t have any money?”
“Um, stop! Please stop!”
“No, tell me. Just between you and me, how much money do you have in your wallet?”
“Are you afraid to hand it over because your address is in there and then he would know where you live, sneak in one night while you’re not home and put your wife and kids in danger?”
“You know what lady, I hadn’t thought of that until just now. So, please stop saying things!”
How about a guy hanging off a cliff…
“You are seconds from death, how does that make you feel?”
“Please help me! Give me your hand!”
“How did you get into this predicament?”
“Give me your hand!”
“What is going through your mind right now as you dangle on the edge of death?”
“That you aren’t trying to help me! What is wrong with you?”
